Meet Our Orthodontic Educators
Jean-Marc Retrouvey, DMD, MSc, FRCD(C)
Dr. Jean-Marc Retrouvey is the former Department Chair and Professor of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, USA. He he has been involved in developing an interactive curriculum to improve the diagnostic skills and treatment planning of orthodontic cases for over 15 years. Dr. Retrouvey lectures internationally on the importance of correct diagnosis of dental malocclusions as well as the use of optimized biomechanics.
Dr. Retrouvey is a principal investigator of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) multicenter grant for a research study on Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a rare genetic bone disease.
He is passionate about innovation in the delivery of orthodontic care and is actively involved in the development of 3D CAD/CAM technologies for orthodontics.
Dr. Retrouvey is an examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC), an advisor for the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB), a member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and the Canadian Association of Orthodontists (CAO). He is one of the founding members of BIOMEDE, an association dedicated to promoting the knowledge of orthodontic biomechanics as an essential background to practice orthodontics. Dr. Retrouvey is also actively involved with Health Volunteer Overseas (HVO) in the development of advanced blended teaching programs for emerging countries. He is actively involved in the creation of an orthodontic program in Cambodia.
As a teacher, Dr. Retrouvey has received the McGill Dental Society, the Wood, the Katz, and the Silverstone awards for excellence in teaching. For his contribution to research and his implication in advancing the knowledge of dentistry, he was recently inducted in the Académie Dentaire du Québec (ADQ). Dr. Retrouvey was recognized during the McGill Bravo award diner in March 2019 for his outstanding contributions to the dental profession and his excellence in research.
Neil Kay, BSc, BDS, MS
Dr. Neil Kay is a graduate of the University of Chicago, and is in private practice in Montgomery, Illinois. He has lectured on orthodontics in the U.S. as well as in England, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Uganda.
Dr. Kay has received the U.S. Presidential Call to Service Award for his 4,000+ hours devoted to volunteer dental work in other countries.
He has been in charge of the Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO) Vietnam project for the past 17 years. Dr. Kay has implemented great training centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City by recruiting local volunteer orthodontists and oral surgeons. In collaboration with the Vietnamese dental faculties, orthodontic training is now a reality in Vietnam.
